  3. Free County Wide Residential Clean Up will be held Saturday, May 3

    Keep Brownwood Beautiful and the City of Brownwood partnered to host a Free County Wide Residential Clean Up from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, under the Austin Avenue Overpass Ave. A and Brady. Acceptable clean up times include: brush, yard debris, household garbage, latex and spray paint (limit 10 gallons), metal, refrigerators (must be free of food), stoves, ovens, a/c units, anti-freeze, car batteries, passenger car tires (max 8 per household, tires will not be accepted from tire dealers or tire resellers, 20 inches or less. No tractor or 18 wheeler tires), used motor oil (limit 5 gallons), document shredding (maximum 3 boxes) recycling will be collected at the Community Plaza across the street from underpass. No hazardous waste. Electronic items: computers, monitors, printers, copy machines, fax machines, scanners, cameras, batteries VCR/VCD/DVD players, MP3players. If it has an electrical cord, they will probably take it. Cars, vans and pickups only during drop off.
  4. Odd Fellow Lodge No. 219 at 'Meat' Ya at the Gap

    Odd Fellow Lodge No. 219 of Brownwood had a booth at the event called 'Meat' Ya at the Gap at Red Dirt Pavilion in Buffalo Gap in Abilene Saturday, April 19. They sold hot dogs, hot links, and sausage on a stick. Event included a barbecue cook off, shopping, live entertainment, games, and more.
  5. HPU students participate in Social Work Student Day at the Legislature

    Six Howard Payne University students recently traveled to the Texas State Capitol in Austin to take part in the Social Work Student Day at the Legislature, sponsored by the Texas Association of Social Work Deans and Directors. The travelers are students in Dan Humeniuk’s Social Welfare Policies, Programs and Issues course.
  6. HPU Concert Choir to present spring concert

    Howard Payne University’s Concert Choir will present its spring concert next Tuesday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the university’s Grace Chapel, located inside the Paul and Jane Meyer Faith and Life Leadership Center on the HPU campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

    Brownwood and Early started their Easter weekend activities this Saturday, April 12, beginning with Breakfast with the Easter Bunny fund-raiser for The ARK Shelter and an Easter Egg Hunt at Heartland Mall.     The 2014 Spring Business Showcase went up, up and away this year with the theme of "Superhero's For Success." The showcase was held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at the Brownwood Coliseum and each business was encouraged to decorate their displays with a superhero theme.The Showcase featured a variety of products, goods and services from businesses of all types. Fashion shows were also featured with local boutiques and department stores showing off their latest Spring fashions including Tiny Tot's Trunk, Maurice's, Dazzling Diva's and Dot's Closet Boutique.     The Eighth Annual Canines, Cats, and Cabernet event was held at 6 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2014, at The Depot Cultural Center. This event, which happens every March, is the signature fundraiser for the Corinne T. Smith Animal Center."Thank goodness," said Day, "That a wonderful group of volunteers created this unique event. The event's sponsors actually pay for the cost of the event.
