MASON — The Brownwood High tennis team was handed its first loss of the season Tuesday, coming up just short, 10-9, in an attempt to knock off Class 4A Kerrville Tivy.
Brownwood picked up six points on the boys side as singles wins were tallied by Brian Bowen (6-3, 6-2 over Cody Highsmith), Mark Johnson (6-4, 6-2 over Scott Schulte), Noah Marlin (6-4, 6-3 over Hayden Keller) and Joaquin Alonzo (6-0, 7-5 over Gabe Schlechte).
Claiming doubles victories for the Lions were the teams of Bowen and Johnson (8-2 over Highsmith and Schulte) and Alonzo and Bennie Salazar (8-6 over Schlechte and Taylor Garces).
For the Lady Lions, singles wins belonged to Rosie Cadena (6-3, 7-6 over Emma McCormick) and Lindsey Williams (6-2, 3-6, 10-8 over Ally Smith).
Williams and Brittney Blake teamed up for the girls’ only doubles win (8-3 over McCormick and Badillo).
The Brownwood High tennis team (3-1) will attempt to rebound Saturday against Graham and Iowa Park in Graham.
