GRAHAM — The Brownwood JV Lions football team made its season debut with a 14-0 shutout victory over the Graham Steers Thursday night.

Colt Bertrand threw a pair of touchdown passes for the Lions, one of 15 yards to Matthew Gomez and one of 27 yards to Ceth Hardy.

Abraham Oviedo added the extra points following both touchdowns.  

Coach Ty Lang praised the entire defense, especially the play of Kutter Allgood, as the Lions  posted the shutout.

Brownwood will host Snyder’s JV Thursday night at Gordon Wood Stadium.


Graham 32, Freshman Lions 28

GRAHAM — The Brownwood Freshman Lions came up short in their season opener Thursday night, falling to the Graham Steers by a 32-28 count.

The Lions led 7-6 after one quarter, 21-12 at halftime and took a 28-18 edge into the fourth period, where Graham rallied to snatch the victory due in part to four second-half Brownwood turnovers.

Grant Lewis completed touchdown passes of 65 yards to Bruce Sterling and 14 yards to Jon Kirbo as he threw for 103 yards. Colt Garrett also passed for 171 yards.

Carson Cloy and Brandon Diaz both scored on 6-yard touchdown runs, while Blake Steele converted all four extra-point attempts.

Cloy led the Lions with 44 yards on the ground, while Rylee Gregory caught five passes for 114 yards, Sterling added four receptions for 85 yards, Cory Richardson grabbed two passes covering 45 yards and Aaron Jimenez also chipped in a 16-yard reception.

Brownwood will host Snyder’s freshman team Thursday night at Gordon Wood Stadium.
