ABILENE — The Howard Payne Lady Jackets cross country team finished sixth, while the Yellow Jackets placed eighth at Saturday's Bill Libby Invitational hosted by McMurry University.

    The Lady Jackets garnered 188 points which left them behind McMurry (33), UT-Permian Basin (55), Lubbock Christian (59), Abilene Christian (95) and Our Lady of the Lakes (117).

    The Yellow Jackets tallied 223 points which trailed Lubbock Christian (40), McMurry (55), UT-Permian Basin (76), Abilene Christian (99), Hardin-Simmons (117), Ranger (125) and Sul Ross (213).

    Running for the Lady Jackets in the 5K event were Carissa Zarate (40th, 24:03.46), Baillie Trumble (43rd, 25:26.41), Amanda Gober (47th, 26:53.28), Nayla Villanueva (49th, 29:29.53) and Shandi Winstead (53rd, 30:24.01).

    Competing for the Yellow Jackets in the 8K run were Sean Locker (46th, 32.23.63), Derek Wilson (48th, 32.49.43), Geremy Garza (50th, 32.59.25), Brady Timmons (53rd, 33.23.1), Bobby Estevis (54th, 33:26.33), Quinton Poe (55th, 35:26.32) and Leslie King (56th, 35.40.1).

    Howard Payne's next meet is slated for Friday at the Ricardo Romo Invitational in San Antonio.
