BANGS — The Bangs City Council will take up the matter of how much City Secretary Nan Billings will be paid when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Council member Larry Williford requested the item for the agenda, and the council will discuss the topic in a closed session before reconvening into open session for any action the council wishes to take.
Williford earlier cast the sole "no" vote against city's budget for the 2012-'13 fiscal year because he objected to moving Billings from an an hourly rate that equalled $36,441 a year to an "exorbitant" annual salary of $45,000.
Mayor Eric Bishop said after the council meeting that Billings had been working overtime and that her hourly earnings equaled about $42,500 a year. Bishop said Billings has also absorbed extra duties that include "100 percent" of the court clerk's job and supervising the utilities clerk.
Williford wants Billings to remain hourly subject to a 2 percent raise all city employees are receiving plus a 2 percent bonus.
Other items on the agenda include considering a curfew ordinance.
