CONWAY, Ark. — After posting two victories and a tie to open its first season under new head coach Estevan Arbaiza, the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets soccer team suffered its first defeat of the 2012 campaign Monday night.
The Yellow Jackets dropped a 3-0 road decision to the Hendrix College Warriors, who improved to 4-1-1 with the victory.
The Yellow Jackets surrendered a pair of first-half goals as Steve Cochrun found the net unassisted 4:43 into the contest, while Connor Silvestri scored with 1:36 left before halftime following an assist from Marco Luna and Pedro Sagone.
Hendrix tallied its final goal with 10:13 remaining as Sagone scored with an assist from Cochrun.
Howard Payne attempted 15 shots to Hendrix’s 16, while both teams recorded four saves.
Shay Pate and Chris Thompson attempted three shots each for HPU, followed by two apiece from Patrick Barker and Oliver Barker.
The Yellow Jackets (2-1-1), as well as the Lady Jackets, open American Southwest Conference soccer action with a 2 p.m. Friday doubleheader against UT-Dallas.
