A woman turned to a "friends" list on Facebook to learn the name of a man who allegedly hit her and pummeled another man at a party in Brownwood early Friday morning, police said.

The woman had known only the first name of the suspect before finding him on the Facebook friends list, a report by officer Brandon Miller states.

According to Miller's report:

Miller was dispatched at 4 a.m. Friday to the Brownwood Regional Medical Center emergency room, where a man was being treated for facial injuries following an assault in the 1200 block of Eighth.

The injured man and a woman who was with him in the emergency room said the two had been standing with several other people in a back yard on Eighth around 3 a.m. Another man became angry and struck the male victim, knocking him down. The woman said the victim appeared to be "knocked out," and the assailant punched the victim repeatedly.

The woman said she grabbed the assailant's shirt and tried to pull him off the victim. She said the assailant reached back with his arm and struck the woman in the face, knocking her over a tree stump and injuring one of her legs.

The fight was broken up and the woman assisted the victim to his feet, and drove him to the hospital.

The woman found the suspect's full name after looking at the "friends" list of another person with whom she is Facebook friends. Police are investigating the incident.

In an unrelated incident, officer Joe Thomas arrested Alicia Green, 24, of Brownwood, on a public intoxication charge after being dispatched to the Law Enforcement Center Thursday morning.

A dispatcher told Thomas a woman had been acting suspicious. Thomas asked the dispatcher what was suspicious about the woman, and the dispatcher said the woman had been licking the glass on the call-taker's window. Thomas spoke with the woman and believed she was possibly under the influence of a synthetic or other drug.
