Funeral Services for Betty Bailey, age 83, of Early, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 18, at Fourth Street Church of Christ in Brownwood, with Rodney Tedford and Ryan Smithey officiating. Interment will follow at Cherokee Cemetery in Cherokee, Texas. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

She passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, in Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Betty was born Aug. 28, 1929, in San Saba to Jack and Elsie Barker Johnson.

She married John Bailey on Aug. 16, 1950, in San Saba. Betty and John moved to Early in 1994. She was a devout Christian, and at the time of her death she was a faithful member of Fourth Street Church of Christ. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school for over 50 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She dedicated much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, including her beloved husband and parents. Betty spent 15 years as a beautician, but also worked beside her husband on the family ranch.

Betty is survived by three children, Cindy Proud of Brownwood, Mike Bailey and wife Brenda of Pittsburgh, Texas, Robert Bailey and wife Kala of Roff, Okla.; six grandchildren, Jonathan Proud, Laurie Bailey, Tonya McElyea and husband Cameron, Ken Bailey and wife Julie, Kati Bailey, and Troy Bailey; five great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Addison McElyea, Madison, Reagan, and Kennedy Bailey; one brother, Tommy Johnson and wife Annie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Bailey; her parents, Jack and Elsie Johnson; an infant sister, Paula Johnson; and a son-in-law, Michael Proud.
