COLEMAN — A Coleman man was killed at approximately 5 p.m. Monday when he was struck by a train as he was walking east on the north side of the tracks at the end of West street.
The Coleman Chronicle-Democrat Voice identified the man as Rex Dewayne Brooks Jr., 33. Police said he was wearing ear buds and was unaware of the train approaching. Brooks was pronounced dead by Coleman County Judge Joe D. Watson.
He was struck from behind and was knocked some 70 feet, landing in a ditch. He died instantly. The death was ruled accidental.
Services are pending at Henderson Funeral Home in Coleman.
It is the second death in Coleman involving an accident with a train since the first of August. On Aug. 2, Vergil Dewayne Birmingham, of Hugo, Okla., died when the truck he was driving with 30 head of cattle was hit by a train on Frio Street.
