Phyliss Gavin, 83, passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, in Brownwood, Texas.
Phyliss Gavin was born Aug. 11, 1929, in Medford, Mass., to the parentage of James and Angeline Blaine McCarthy. She grew up in the Boston Area where she attended public schools and later graduated. On Nov. 27, 1949, Phyliss was married to Joseph Gavin in Cohoes, N.Y., and shortly after, settled in Rensselaer, N.Y. Phyliss was a telephone operator for many years for General Telephone (GTE). She then worked as an office manager for an optometrist.
Phyliss and Joseph relocated to Texas in 1979, living in Odessa. She was an avid reader, and gardener who shared her bounty with family members, neighbors, and friends. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She and her husband moved to Brownwood in July of 2011.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Joseph of Brownwood; one daughter, Joanne Gavin of Pflugerville, Texas,; two sons, Thomas Gavin and wife Joann of East Greenbush, N.Y., and John Gavin and wife Linda of May, Texas; four grandchildren; and a number of nieces of nephews.
Phyliss was proceeded in death by both parents; one brother, James; and two sisters, Lorraine and Jacqueline.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Joseph Gavin for funeral expenses or charity of your choice. No service arrangements have been made. Cremation arrangements have been made under the direction of Brownwood Funeral Home and Cremations.
