BALLINGER– The Ballinger City Council approved the 2012-2013 fiscal year budget, and a 1 percent increase to the Property Tax rate at the meeting held last Monday, September 17, 2012 at the City Hall.
The City Property Tax rate was set at of $0.440369 per $100 of appraised value, an increase of .005199 compared to the 2011-2012 fiscal year rate.
The increase will balance the City’s revenue, after a decrease in the tax base which passed from $127,689,052 last year to $126,887,441.
The City of Ballinger adopted a tax rate equal to the effective tax rate of $0.440369 per $100
of value, and taxes will be increased compared to 2011 taxes by $378.
At Monday night’s meeting the City Council also approved to hire Ricky Bowman as the City’s auditor, and tabled the Housing project until further information is gathered about the cost to the city.
The City Council voted on two construction permits, the first one for additions to a house located at 1212 Ave. D, and the second one for the remodeling of the old Complete Packaging building, located at 2001 Hutchings Ave. In this last one the permit was approved for interior remodeling only.
Council members went into a public hearing to discuss the condemnation of two trailer houses, one of them located at 1000 11th Street and the other one at 512 1/2 Twelfth Street. Both trailer houses were condemned.
