CLINTON, Miss. — The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets dropped to 3-3-1 overall and 1-2 in American Southwest Conference men’s soccer action with a 4-0 road loss to Mississippi College Thursday afternoon.

Mississippi College (3-3, 2-0) scored two goals in each half as four Choctaws found the net.

In the first half, Julio Cesar Espinal and Brian Vasquez scored in a 24-second span, while second-half goals belonged to Omar Acosta and Richard Colorado.

The Choctaws attempted 29 shots, with seven on goal, while the Yellow Jackets fired seven attempts, with one goal.

Shooting for HPU were Joseph Gardner, with three attempts, while Oliver Barker, Shay Pate and Danny Jaime chipped in one apiece.

In goal, Ryan Young tallied three saves for the Yellow Jackets, while Robert Jackson finished with one for Mississippi College.    


Mississippi College 4, Lady Jackets 0

CLINTON, Miss. — The Howard Payne Lady Jackets slipped to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in American Southwest Conference women’s soccer action with a 4-0 loss at Mississippi College Thursday.

Macey Lee and Shelby Phelon scored two goals apiece for Mississippi College (5-1-1, 2-0) as the Lady Choctaws built a three-goal halftime advantage.

Mississippi College finished with 26 shots, including 13 on goal, while Howard Payne attempted five shots, with four on goal.

Lauren Wilmer and Shannon Costello fired two shots each for HPU, while Leslie Jones added one.

In goal, Adrienne Walker recorded seven saves for the Lady Jackets, while Bethany Roberson and Brianna Blackwell tallied two saves apiece for Mississippi College.

The Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets will return to action at 2 p.m. Saturday with an ASC doubleheader at Louisiana College.
