IRVING — The Howard Payne Lady Jackets inched closer to double figures in the win column Friday night by picking up a 25-18, 25-22, 20-25, 25-23 road victory over the University of Dallas in non-conference volleyball action.

Howard Payne (9-9, 4-4) received 12 kills apiece from Hannah Hicks, Sarah Bishop and Taylor Jordan, while Jessica Guerra dished out 27 assists and Allyson Reed chipped in 17. Shelby Bridges served a team-high two aces.

Defensively, Bridges collected 16 digs followed by 12 from Jordan, while Sarah Davies was credited with four blocks.

The Lady Jackets will visit American Southwest Conference West Division rival Concordia at 7 p.m. Tuesday then take part in the second ASC Crossover Friday and Saturday in Belton, where HPU will face Mississippi College, UT-Tyler and host Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Heading into Saturday volleyball action, the Lady Jackets were in third place in the ASC West standings, one half-game in front of both Concordia and Schreiner. The top three teams from each division will advance to the six-team double elimination ASC championship tournament hosted by the top seed from the West the weekend of Nov. 1-3.
