The Brownwood Lady Lions put forth a spirited rally, but their comeback fell short in a five-set District 8-3A home volleyball loss to the Lampasas Lady Badgers Friday night.
After dropping the first two sets 25-21 and 26-24, the Lady Lions stormed back with victories of 25-19 and 25-20 to force the fifth set tiebreaker. However, Lampasas outlasted the Lady Lions in the final set for a 15-12 victory to clinch the match.
Brooklyn Stewart posted 12 kills to pace the Brownwood offensive attack trailed by 11 from Devin Lyons, nine from Katie Pevehouse, seven each from Brooke Montemayor and Kayli Waddle, three from Makayla Hight, two from Cynthia Ibarra and one from Cassandra Mendez.
Naomi Rosato ignited the offense with 25 assists followed by 21 from Paxton Vaughn, two from Waddle and one each from Lyons and Mabree Moore.
Pevehouse, Vaughn and Mendez served three aces apiece, while Lyons recorded one.
Defensively, Moore led the way with 24 digs trailed by 19 from Lyons and 11 from Rosato.
Pevehouse recorded a team-best two blocks with one each coming from Lyons and Stewart.
Brownwood fell to 0-3 in district action with the loss and 4-18 overall, with games against 8-3A favorites No. 21 Liberty Hill (6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Warren Gym) and No. 24 Gatesville (6 p.m. Friday in Gatesville) scheduled for the coming week.
