EASTLAND -- Three people were injured Sunday morning when a CareFlite helicopter from Granbury made a hard landing about three miles south of Eastland, a quarter-mile east of the intersection of Texas Highway 6 and County Road 309.
The injured were the pilot, Scott Wayne Wallace, 58, of Fort Worth; and medicsTeresa Lynn Campbell, 53, of Granbury, and Rhett Derek Drahen, 34, from Frisco.
DPS Senior Trooper Sparky Dean said the three were taken by ambulance to Eastland Memorial Hospital, and were being prepared for transfer to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. All three were conscious and talking at the scene.
The helicopter, based in Granbury, was traveling to pick up a patient, Dean said. The pilot was attempting to divert to the Eastland County Airport because of low visibility due to bad weather. The company is based in Grand Prairie.
The aircraft's engine was still running when the Texas Highway Patrol arrived at the scene, Dean said. Law enforcement officials are standing by the crash site until personnel from the FAA arrive to begin an investigation. That was expected Sunday afternoon.
