BANGS — The Bangs Lady Dragons were unable to hang on to a six-point halftime edge as the Goldthwaite Lady Eagles rallied for a 40-33 victory in Tuesday’s season opener for both teams.
Bangs, making its debut under first-year head coach Nicole Holt, led 12-3 after one quarter and 24-18 at halftime, but Goldthwaite grabbed a 33-26 lead after three quarters and maintained its seven-point advantage over the final eight minutes.
“The girls came out very hard to start the game,” Holt said. “We made some young mistakes late in the game that hurt us, but I’m very pleased with our first game and expect the girls to keep learning and getting better.”
Rikki Loman scored eight points for Bangs — which plays in the Cisco tournament starting Thursday — trailed by six from Charly Lipsey, four each by Kady Kyle and Rachael Willard and three apiece by Kinsie Ward and Kylie Allen.
