CISCO — The Bangs Lady Dragons earned their first victory of the Niki Holt coaching era as they split their initial two contests at the Cisco basketball tournament on Thursday.
After opening with a 47-46 loss to Strawn, Bangs rebounded with a 58-34 triumph over the Abilene Hawks.
“In the first game, we fought hard but had way too many turnovers to get the win,” Holt said. “The girls came back very well after a tough loss earlier in the day and got their first win of the season.”
In Bangs’ victory, the Lady Dragons led 12-10 after one quarter, 28-12 at halftime and 42-22 heading into the fourth period.
Kady Kyle scored a team-high 15 points for Bangs trailed by 11 from Rachael Willard, nine from Morgan Morales and seven from Kinsie Ward.
Against Strawn, Bangs trailed 18-11 after one quarter, took a 23-21 halftime lead, but fell behind 41-38 after three periods.
Kyle and Willard recorded 12 points each for Bangs, trailed by nine from Rikki Loman.
Bangs will resume tournament action at 9 a.m. today against Comanche.
