After a year of renovations and about $2 million, the staff at Brownwood Nursing and Rehabilitation is ready to showcase their facility with a re-grand opening on Tuesday. More than 250 invitations have been sent to healthcare related businesses for the open house from 5-7 p.m.

Brownwood Nursing and Rehabilitation is a part of Daybreak Venture, one of Texas’ largest providers of long-term and assisted living rehabilitative care.

“We collaborated with our corporate office to help with the renovations,” said Justin Johnson, administrator at Brownwood Nursing and Rehabilitation. “If you would of walked in a year ago, you wouldn’t recognize the place. Everything is literally brand new — new floors, fixtures, decorations, furniture, everything except the brick and mortar.”

As a part of the renovations, a skilled nursing facility was included inside. The skilled nursing facility is comprised of 15 rooms that have been modeled to be like home — including a flat screen televisions and small dinning room tables. The rooms are separated from the nursing home side of the facility.

“The skilled nursing facility has an outpatient feel to it,” Johnson said. “There is even a private entrance for the family to use if they don’t feel like coming through the front door.”

When residents were able to move into their new rooms, many of them were surprised and happy about the changes including Paula Lynn who has been at Brownwood Nursing and rehabilitation for more than two years.

“I really liked it,” Lynn said. “The old floor used to remind me of a hospital, but now it looks more like home. We had hardwood floors in our house.”

Among the other improvements made, Lynn also likes how her room is larger than before. The facility was able to make the residents’ rooms larger with out losing any rooms.

Along with the improvements made inside the facility, the landscape outside also received some improvements. One of the highlights includes the installation of a small fountain.

“The plan for outside was to make it more user-friendly for our residents,” said Jerry Strickland, director of marketing and admissions at Brownwood Nursing and Rehabilitation. “We also wanted to get our residents more exposure outside. Since they finished the fountain area, several residents and their families have taken advantage of the area.

During Tuesday’s open house, the staff along with some of the residents will be leading tours.

“We have some residents who have taken such an active role in the facilities,” Strickland said. “At times, it’s almost like their employees.”

Brownwood Nursing and Rehabilitation is located at 101 Miller Drive across from the emergency room entrance at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. For more information about Brownwood Nursing and Rehabilitation, contact Strickland at (325) 643-9555.
