It was an evening of food, music and praise during the second annual Thanksgiving Feast and Festival of Praise Sunday night at the Brownwood Coliseum.
“We wanted to do something to give back to the community,” said Kelly Crenshaw, pastor at New Beginnings Church. “And, to feed not only just the hungry but anybody and everybody who wanted to come.”
More than 500 pounds of turkey was prepared for the Thanksgiving dinner. Jason Dickey and Jackie Roberts, from the High Mesa Cowboy Church, started cooking the turkeys early Sunday morning.
As the serving lines opened, members from New Life Assembly of God, New Beginnings Church, Abundant Life Church, Greater Faith Community Church, High Mesa Cowboy Church and more took the stage to provide entertainment along with messages of praise. Organizers estimate more than 1,000 residents came to dinner.
“It’s been awesome,” said Jeff Pieprzyca, pastor at New Life Assembly of God. “It’s been a great night for everyone to come together. We had great teamwork from all of the churches.”
Sponsors for the feast included Sonic, Sodexo, Brownwood Janitorial, KOXE, KPSM Radio, Abundant Life Church, Coggin Avenue Baptist Church, Greater Faith Community Church, High Mesa Cowboy Church, Midtown Baptist Church, New Beginnings Church, New Life Assembly of God, Trinity Chapel, Chaplain Dale Sterns, Heart of Texas Baptist Missions and the Salvation Army of Brownwood. To end the night, an all-church choir took the stage.
“We needed to get together and celebrate God,” said Aaron Blake, pastor at Greater Faith Community Church. “To go across denominational lines, across racial lines even though there may be divisions politically across the country — to show that God is the God of all mankind.”
