BALLINGER– After a year off the Ballinger Bearcats bounced to the postseason, and with good chances to stay there for a while. Ballinger will be facing Sonora in the Bi-District round of the playoffs in a game to be held on Friday night, at 7:30 p.m. at San Angelo Stadium.

Looking at the numbers the game appears to be very even, there is no clear favorite. Ballinger made it to the playoff as third place of the District 4-2A, Division II with 2-3 in district games and an overall season of 7-3. Sonora placed second in District 3, finished district games with 3-2 and also had an overall season of 7-3.

Both schools have been district opponents in the past. The last time they faced each other Sonora defeated the Bearcats at Bronco Stadium in the third week of the 2011 season. At the time Sonora was ranked 12th in state and Ballinger was starting (0-3) a season that would end with just one win.

This year, after losing their first two district games (Alpine and Coahoma), the Broncos won three games in a row to secure the playoff berth.

The Bearcats secured their spot with victories over Hawley and Hamilton, despite falling to Colorado City, Coleman and the ninth ranked Cisco Loboes.

Ballinger and Sonora played two common opponents this regular season. While both teams defeated Brady by a wide margin (Ballinger 43-7, Sonora 42-0), Ballinger got better results against Coahoma (21-0 win for Ballinger, 27-21 loss Sonora).

The winner of this match will face Post (9-1) in the area round of the playoffs. The other team will be heading to an early start in the basketball season.
