Southside Church, organizers of the 2012 Spirit of Christmas Lighted Parade, named the Family Services Center grand marshal for the parade on Thursday, Dec. 6.

The parade is set to start at 6:15 p.m. and has been expanded by three blocks to accommodate all the floats. According to organizers, past parades have finished before all of the floats have started.

“We expect this year’s parade to be the largest and longest one we have ever coordinated,” Eric Evans said. “We have expanded the parade to go completely around the County Courthouse ? this will help the parade to not meet itself before all the floats have left the staging area.”

Family Services Center will lead this year’s Spirit of Christmas Lighted Parade and will be followed by 100 entries including marching bands, lighted floats, horses, fire trucks, costumed characters, stage bands, singers, dancers and Santa Clause.

Vendors will be selling hot chocolate and glow toys for the children along the parade route with some of the proceeds benefiting local organizations.

There are still spots left in this year’s parade but space is limited to 100 entries. The deadline was Nov. 16 but late entries will still be accepted until Nov. 26 for $20. Entry forms are available at Southside Church or at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce.

“We had to put a limit on the entries because if not, it would just be too long,” Evans said. “We encourage the community to spread out along the parade route and not just at the beginning. The parade will be just as good
