Five Lady Jacket players were recognized Sunday at the annual postseason banquet where the Howard Payne volleyball program handed out its team awards for the 2012 season.

†End of the year awards were given out for Newcomer of the Year, Most Improved Player, Best Offensive Player, Best Defensive Player, Most Valuable Teammate, Most Inspirational Player and the Yellow Jacket Award.

Howard Payne finished the season with a 10-16 overall record, including a 5-11 mark in American Southwest Conference action. The Lady Jackets tied for fourth place in the ASC West race.

The Lady Jackets award winners were as follows:

Best Defensive Player and Most Valuable Player

Shelby Bridges, Sophomore

Shelby Bridges posted career best numbers this season in total aces (35) and digs (445). †

Bridges also had the fourth best single season performance in total digs and tied for the second best single season performance in digs per set. †

With the addition of this seasonís stats, Bridges is ranked tied for 15th in career aces per set average and seventh all-time in digs per set average for the Lady Jackets.

Best Offensive Player

Hannah Hicks, Junior

Hannah Hicks finished with career best numbers this season in total kills (222), kills per set (2.34), points (292), attack percentage (.221), total blocks (110) and blocks per set (1.16).

Hicks also finished the season ranked No. 22 in the nation in blocks/set.

She also recorded the second best single season performance in block assists and sixth best single season performance in total blocks in program history.

With the addition of this seasonís stats, Hicks is now ranked third in career total block assists, fourth in career total block solos, third in career total blocks and seventh in career blocks per set at HPU.

Newcomer of the Year

Allyson Reed, Junior

Allyson Reed played in 23 matches for Howard Payne and was second on the team in assists with 307 (3.74 per set).

Reed also tallied 114 digs and 11 service aces.

Most Improved Player

Tolli Wylie, Freshman

Tolli Wylie played in 25 matches for the Lady Jackets and recorded 66 kills, 22 digs and 32 total blocks.

Most Inspiration Player and Yellow Jacket Award Winner

Carlee Ammons, Senior

Carlee Ammons is the only three-time Yellow Jacket Award recipient in Ken Carverís time as the head coach.

Ammons played in 23 matches and recorded 85 kills and 30 total blocks.
