Christmas is always a special time for both giver and receiver, for both parents and children.

The excitement of picking out and wrapping gifts for loved ones and the joy and love felt while opening the gifts are simply contagious. It is not called the Christmas spirit for nothing.

There are times, however, that no matter how hard they try, parents need help in providing Christmas gifts for their children.

Toys for Kids has been helping families continue the tradition of gift-giving since 2002. It was founded by Wanda Thacker Martin and her late husband Dennis Thacker and is still going strong with the help of family, friends, volunteers, donors, and the local community.

Toys for Kids collect toy and cash donations year round. For Christmas, donations are requested to be in by Dec. 22, distribution day, at Grand Starz in Belle Plain.

Everyone needing help with toys is requested to be registered by Dec. 13, Thursday. Children's social security cards and the parent/guardian's personal identification are required to be presented for sign-up.

As it has been in the past, all proceeds benefit Brown County residents and 100 percent of donations received go toward the purchase of toys.
