EARLY — The Bangs Dragons and Lady Dragons left their marks on the 2013 Pecan Valley Relays as both squads took home team championships Thursday night.
The Dragons finished with 135 points, edging runner-up Eastland by a single point. Meanwhile, the Lady Dragons tallied 153 points, which gave them a nine-point cushion over second-place Comanche.
The Lady Horns collected 66 points, which left them behind Bangs, Comanche and third-place Eastland (94 points) and 1.5 points ahead of fifth-place Coleman (64.5 points).
The Longhorns chalked up 63 points which trailed Bangs, Eastland, third-place Coleman (121) and fourth-place Comanche (112).
The Dragons finished first in two events, placed second in eight more and added a pair of third-place efforts.
Esubio Sandoval, in the 400 meters (53.56), and Christian Bosquez, in the discus (126-8), both placed first.
The Lady Dragons brought home three gold medals, three silvers and nine bronze.
First-place finishers included Charly Lipsey in the 300-meter hurdles (49.9), Destany Finley in the 100 meters (12.96) and the sprint relay team (52.12).
Meanwhile, the Lady Horns earned three gold medals and three silvers, while the Longhorns finished with one gold medal and a pair of silvers.
Finishing first for the Early girls were Aubrey Horton in both the discus (114-6) and shot put (35-4) and Chelsea Johnston in the 800 meters (2:31.52).
Bringing home a gold medal for the Longhorns was Grant Gowdy in the 800 meters (2:09.5).
