EASTLAND — The Bangs Dragons coasted to a pair of victories in their first two games at the Eastland baseball tournament Thursday, routing Breckenridge, 11-1, in five innings and disposing of Anson, 7-1.
Against Breckenridge, the Dragons tallied single runs in the first, second and fourth innings and exploded for eight runs in the third. Bangs finished with 12 hits and limited the Buckaroos to four.
Offensively, Corey Crowell finished 3 for 3 with a double, three runs scored and a pair of RBIs. J.T Newton was 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI, while Jacob Beckwith went 2 for 2 with a run scored. Josh Beckwith also chipped in a double.
On the mound, Aaron Keller pitched all five innings and allowed one run on four hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.
In the win over Anson, Bangs jumped out to an early 6-0 advantage with two runs in the second inning and four in the third. The Dragons chalked up 14 hits and gave up five.
Josh Beckwith went 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs, Newton finished 3 for 4 with a run scored and Gabe Perez was 3 for 4 with a run and an RBI. Chuy Alvarado chipped in a 2 for 3 effort that included an RBI.
Newton pitched all seven innings for the Dragons, surrendering one run on five hits with with three walks and eight strikeouts. Newton also picked off four runners at first base, including two in the first inning.
