Boy scouts across the counties came together on Saturday to compete in the Pecan Valley District Pinewood Derby sponsored by Big Country Ford Lincoln, hosted by Sherry Aguerro and pack 37 and held at the old Corral West store in Heartland Mall.
Races began at 10 a.m. with the Tiger packs. Winners for the Tiger division were Asher Callaway in first, Rylan Ellis in second and Jax Andrade in third.
The Wolves pack races began at noon. Winners for the Wolves pack races were Klayton Tervooren in first place, Wezlee Wilkey in second and Garren Higginbothan in third.
The open races began at 1 p.m. This race included any car or design. Winners in the open division race were Karamie Gilbert in first, Alex Aguerro and Hunter Miller in third.
The Bear pack races began at 2 p.m. Winners in the Bear pack derby races included Blake Miller in first, Zachary Ellis in second and Liam Swain in third.
Pinewood derby cars were judged at 3 p.m. The judging took into account design, color and creativity. Mason Terrill took the best use of imagination award. Peyton Camp won best design. Caygen Schroeder won best classic car design. Cian Gilbert won most futuristic, Lindley and Peyton Tilley tied for most original and Ethan Dyson won for best use of color.
The Webelos began their races at 4 p.m. First place went to Aaron Callaway, Ryan Lemond took second and Kody Johnson took third.
Each first place contestant was moved into the championship race bracket. Asher Callaway, Tervooren, Miller and Aaron Callaway all went head-to-head in the final, intense race.
Aaron Callaway of Early took first, Blake Miller of Brownwood took second, Asher Callaway of Early took third and Klayton Tervooren of Brownwood took fourth place.
The top three places received a trophy and remote controlled helicopter donated by Big Country Ford Lincoln.
The top two places in each race won a trophy, except in the open race, which awarded medals.
