SNYDER — The Brownwood Lions halted a three-game losing streak and salvaged their final game at the Snyder tournament Saturday, defeating the host and former district rival Tigers by a 3-0 count.

Seth Owen and Colt Evetts combined on a two-hit shutout, while the Lions scored a pair of runs early and added an insurance run late to boost their record to 5-4 on the season.

“We had a couple of guys sick and a couple of guys at a track meet, so it was up to the rest of us to hold the rope and play together as a team,” said Lions head coach Blake Sandford. “We came out focused and ready to change the course of what happened the previous three games. It was very important for us to rebound and respond from adversity and beat the host school on their field. I couldn’t be prouder of the guys’ effort.”

Further statistical information on the game was not available.

The Lions will visit Abilene Wylie at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, then host the annual Bluebonnet Invitational Thursday through Saturday at Morris Southall Field.
