The Howard Payne University Jazz Ensemble will present its winter concert this Thursday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Mims Auditorium.

Among the selections featured on the program will be famous arrangements of George Gershwin classics including the pop song “Love Walked In,” a medley of songs from the opera “Porgy and Bess” and “Rhapsody in Blue.” The arrangement presented on Thursday won the 2012 Grammy for “Best Jazz Arrangement.”

There is no charge for the concert and the public is cordially invited.

HPU’s Jazz Ensemble has received honors for performances at the North Texas Jazz Festival and the Temple Jazz Festival from 2005 to 2010. It is under the direction of Stephen Goacher, professor of music.
