MINERAL WELLS — The Brownwood Lady Lions came up on the short end of a 7-6 decision at Mineral Wells Tuesday night to slip to 4-4-1 on the season.
Brownwood, which was coming off a 4-1 Friday victory at former district rival Abilene Wylie, built a four-run lead, but the Lady Rams tallied the final five runs of the game.
The Lady Lions jumped out in front, 2-0, in the top of the first inning as Sydney Laws doubled home Cherita George, then Kristen Fuentes plated Laws later in the inning.
Mineral Wells battled back to even the score at 2, but the Lady Lions grabbed a 5-2 advantage in the top of the third on a two-RBI double by Alyson Finnigan and an RBI sacrifice bunt from Ashley Gomez.
George doubled home Tori Burkett in the fourth to boost the lead to 6-2, but Mineral Wells scored three runs in the fifth and two in the bottom of the seventh to complete the comeback.
The Lady Lions will be back in Mineral Wells this weekend, taking part in the Lady Rams’ tournament Thursday through Saturday.
