COLEMAN — The Bangs Dragons blanked Coleman, 7-0, to open District 6-2A baseball action with their 46th consecutive league victory.
The Dragons, in pursuit of a fourth straight district championship, received a one-hitter from Aaron Keller, who struck out 17 and walked one.
Bangs scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings and tacked on the final four runs in the sixth.
Keller led the Dragons’ 13-hit attack with a 3 for 4 effort while Josh Beckwith went 3 for 3 with an RBI. J.T. Newton was 2 for 4 with a pair of runs scored, while Corey Crowell and Matt Carter both doubled back-to-back in the fourth inning to produce a run.
The Dragons (1-0 in district) will face Merkel at 10 a.m. Thursday in their first game of their own tournament. Bangs resumes district action at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Early.
Longhorns 22, Grape Creek 6
GRAPE CREEK — The Early Longhorns chalked up a lopsided victory in their District 6-2A opener Tuesday, rolling past Grape Creek in a 22-6 blowout.
Offensively, J.W. Ledbetter was 2 for 3 with four RBIs, Nic Alcorta finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs, Kellan Jackson went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs and Brandon Brownlee was 1 for 3 and knocked in two RBIs.
On mound, Stephen Hlis allowed one hit with four strikeouts in two innings; Ethan Easley struck out one in one inning; and Alcorta and Tres Underwood each fanned two in an inning of work apiece.
Early (1-0 in district) will compete in the Bangs tournament Thursday and Saturday then host Bangs at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
