With more than 11,000 photographers eligible for the award, Brownwood photographer Kim Hurt was among the select photographers presented with the 2013 Two Bright Lights Editors' Choice Award.

“I'm really excited about winning this award,” Hurt said. “I work hard to give my clients high quality images that capture the beauty and joy of their wedding and it's great to see that the editor of national and international publications like my work enough to print it for their readers.”

Two Bright Lights editors give the annual awards to their favorite and most frequently published photographers and wedding planers. The 2013 honorees reflect a diverse group of wedding and lifestyle photographers and vendors, including event planners, venues, dress designers, florists, culinary professionals and more.

“Our community is dedicated to showcasing the most authentic photography from wedding and lifestyle experiences in an editorial environment. Our publication partners recognize the value of professional photography with a journalistic style and reality-based content because it inspires and resonates with readers far more than stock alternatives,” said Siri Eklund, Two Bright Lights CEO. “We congratulate the 2013 winners who have demonstrated a superior quality of work for their customers and have been rewarded by our editorial partners with publication. We look forward to seeing even more features published in 2013.”

Hurt opened Tilt Shift Studios with her husband, Kyle, in 2008, with the goal of providing fine art wedding and portrait photography that is more than a well composed snap shot.

“We want to provide our clients with heirloom art that sums up a relationship, a single image that provides an emotional tether to a time, a place, a feeling, a family,” Hurt said.

Like any field, getting published is often a difficult task for even the most talented photographers because of the limited number of spots available.

“It's not easy to get published; there is a lot of competition,” Hurt said. “I'm really proud of my 17 features last year.”

Over the years, Hurt has won several awards including a Sculpture Award from the Abilene Christian University Student Exhibit in 2004, honorable mention in the Grace Museum Art Exhibit in 2003, honors photography by the ACU Photography Department in 2002, People's Choice Award in the 2008 Brownwood Reunion Photography Contest, honorable mention in the 2009 Brownwood Reunion Photography Contest, honorable mention in the 2010 Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit; first place professional in the 2011 Brownwood Reunion Photography Contest, second place funny photo in the 2011 Brownwood Reunion Photography Contest and honorable mention in the 2011 Eyes of Texas Photography Exhibit.
