MINERAL WELLS — The Brownwood Lady Lions opened play in the Mineral Wells tournament with a 4-0 loss to state-ranked Celina, but regrouped to down Springtown, 3-2, Thursday.

In the victory over Springtown, the Lady Lions allowed the game’s first run in the top of the fourth, but answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Sydney Laws and Kristen Fuentes both reached on base hits, then Alyson Finnigan followed with an RBI single and Kathryn Walker reached on an error, which resulted in the two runs.

The Lady Lions tacked on a run in the fifth on an RBI triple by Walker that scored Fuentes, who doubled.

Laws allowed two hits and struck out eight.

Against Celina, the Lady Lions gave up single runs in the first and fourth innings and two more in the sixth. 

Brownwood tallied just three hits by Laws, Fuentes and Halie Hipsher.
