EARLY — Wanted for probation violation in Florida, a man took up with an Early woman after meeting her on Facebook and was arrested on multiple charges Thursday morning after a disturbance involving the man, the woman and her 8-month-old baby, police said.
Nathan Castaneda, 23, remained jailed Friday on charges of assault by strangulation, aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and child endangerment, and on a Florida warrant for violating his probation for robbery, Brown County Jail records state. Castaneda will face charges in Brown County before being taken back to Florida, police said.
According to Early police:
Officers responded to an apartment the 1000 block of Early Boulevard around 10:30 a.m. after a caller reported hearing a woman screaming for help and what sounded like someone getting thrown around a room and against a wall.
As officers approached the apartment, a woman leaned out a second-story window holding a baby, screaming "he's gonna kill me, hurry help!”
Officers forced entry and detained a man, while the woman continued screaming she and her baby were injured. Guardian EMS responded and woman and baby to Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Deputies responded as backup.
The woman said she' been with the man for about a week after meeting him on Facebook. She said the man came from book Florida to stay with her.
The woman said an early-morning argument escalated into the man striking her multiple times with his fist, throwing her into the wall, jerking the baby away from her and throwing the baby to the side. The woman said the man pulled a knife on her and struck her with a guitar.
The woman said when she tried to call 9-1-1, the man took the phone away and struck her again.
