MINERAL WELLS — For the second consecutive day, the Brownwood Lady Lions softball team earned a split at the Mineral Wells tournament, defeating Graham, 8-5, while falling to Iowa Park, 10-2.

In Friday’s victory over Graham, the Lady Lions scored five runs in the second inning and tacked on three more in the fourth inning.

Brownwood’s second inning began with Alyson Finnigan and Kristen Fuentes reaching on errors. Shelbi Winstead followed with a two-RBI double to stake the Lady Lions to a 2-0 lead.

Kathryn Walker later walked, and with Winstead still on base, Halie Hipsher reached on a two-out, four-base error that resulted in three Lady Lion runs.

During the fourth inning, Walker and Ashley Gomez led off with singles followed by a two-RBI double from Hipsher. Hipsher later scored on an RBI double by Sydney Laws.

In the circle, Laws allowed seven hits and struck out four batters.

Against Iowa Park, Laws doubled home Hipsher in the first inning and Winstead scored when Gomez reached on an error in the seventh. 

Meanwhile, Iowa Park scored twice in the second and fourth innings and added three runs each in the third and sixth frames.
