MINERAL WELLS — The Brownwood Lady Lions were unable to salvage their final game at the Mineral Wells softball tournament Saturday as they fell to the host Lady Rams for the second time this week, 5-2.

Brownwood (6-7-1) also dropped a 7-6 decision at Mineral Wells on Tuesday.

In Saturday’s contest, the Lady Lions tallied runs in the top of the second and seventh innings. Meanwhile, Mineral Wells picked up three runs in the third and added two more in the fifth.

Brownwood scored its run in the second inning on a two-out RBI single up the middle from Shelbi Winstead, which plated Alyson Finnigan, who led off the inning with a base hit to left field.

Trailing 5-1 heading into the top of the seventh inning, Ashley Gomez and Kathryn Walker led off with singles, then Winstead walked to load the bases with no outs. An RBI ground out by Tori Burkett brought home Gomez with the second run. Brownwood then hit into a double play for the final two outs of the game.

In the circle, Sydney Laws worked the first four innings and allowed three runs on four hits with two errors behind her.

Finnigan tossed the final three innings and yielded a pair of runs on four hits and the Brownwood defense did not commit an error.

The Lady Lions will host Snyder at 3 p.m. Tuesday, then open District 8-3A action at Burnet on Friday. Brownwood has reeled off 26 consecutive district wins and captured three straight league titles.
