After District Judge Steve Ellis signed a bench warrant, Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Valton Posey drove to San Angelo to pick up Lanny Marvin Bush and transport him to the Brown County Jail Wednesday morning.
Bush was arrested on Sept. 20, 2012, in Tom Green County on one charge of online impersonation, with bond set at $20,000, and was also held for violating his parole. On Sept. 28, 2013, Bush was charged with a second count of online impersonation in Brown County, with bond set at $200,000, officials said, citing court and jail records.
According to Brown County Deputy Jim Cornelius, Bush was brought to Brown County because of the similar charge.
Bush is a former boyfriend of Michele Reiter, who disappeared and was later found dead. No charges have been filed against Bush in connection with Reiter’s disappearance or death.
Reiter was last seen at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, according to friends and Facebook posts. She told her roommate she was going out for a while, and when she didn’t come home that night, the roommate contacted The Home Depot the next morning to see if she had come to work. Reiter hadn’t, and her car was
found two days later.
Reiter’s body was discovered on Sept. 24, 2012, in a shallow grave under a bridge between Santa Anna and Valera, in Coleman County.
According to an affidavit filed by Texas Ranger Nick Hanna, Bush is alleged to have “created the persona of Rocky Switzer” to communicate with Reiter on Reiter’s Facebook page. Hanna and another Texas Ranger, Danny Crawford, interviewed Bush on Sept. 19. Bush provided a statement in which he acknowledged he established the Facebook page under Rocky Switzer “with intent to harm Michele Reiter” and acknowledged meeting with Reiter twice on Sept. 10, Hanna’s affidavit states.
According to a jailhouse interview with the San Angelo Standard-Times in October, Bush claims he was communicating with Reiter through a false identity because of a condition of Reiter’s probation. Bush stated the two planned to meet Sept. 10, the day Reiter was last seen alive, but Reiter canceled the meeting because she had a date.
Bush denies any involvement in Reiter’s disappearance.
