BALLINGER– The Ballinger Girls Powerlifting Team traveled to Corpus Christi Texas this weekend to compete in State Competition. All three ladies placed high in their weight classes against 11 other state qualifiers.
Leading the way, senior and two-time state qualifier was Lindsey Heidenheimer with second place in the 132-pound weight class with a personal best total of 885 pounds which was 5 pounds short from first place.
Freshman Rebecca Simpson placed fourth in the 198-pound weight class with a 855-pound total. Freshman Angelica Fuentes placed fifth in the 165-pound class with a 815-pound total.
All competed well and definitely had their competition nervous throughout the whole meet.
“I’m proud of all of the girls especially my senior Lindsey. I wish I had another year with her. I believe she was just getting started and hope she continues to compete in powerlifting throughout her life because that keeps you focused to better yourself and carries over into all areas of your life to be better,” said Ballinger High School Powerlifting Coach Tremaine Johnson.
“Angelica and Rebecca tasted how good the State level was and this experience has really ignited a fire in each of them for the next years to come. In my opinion and by faith they will be future champions in the near future,” Johnson added.
Its good when you have any young athlete that is thankful to place high but not content with being anything less than first place, said Johnson.
“Im excited about their future. Preparation will continue for the next season for all of my younger lifters.”
The Boys State meet will be in Abilene, Texas at the Taylor County Expo Center Saturday March 23, 2013 at 9 a.m. admission is 5$ and concessions and tee-shirt vendors will be available.
