LIBERTY HILL — For the first time in Amanda Sheffield’s tenure as head coach, the Brownwood Lady Lions suffered a district softball loss.

Tuesday night, Brownwood’s 27-game district win streak came to an end with a 2-0 loss at Liberty Hill, which advanced to the state tournament a year ago.

In a game that featured a total of two hits — one by each team — miscues in the second inning led to a pair of Liberty Hill runs and the difference in the game.

Alyson Finnigan recorded the lone Brownwood (8-9-1, 1-1) hit with one out in the top of the seventh inning.

Liberty Hill’s only hit off Sydney Laws, came to start the bottom of the sixth. Laws struck out three batters.

Brownwood, still in position to earn a fourth straight district championship, will host Lampasas at 7 p.m. Friday.
