LIBERTY HILL — A couple of miscues plagued the Brownwood Lions and turned out to be the different in a 2-1 loss at Liberty Hill to open District 8-3A action Tuesday night.

The Lions (10-8, 0-1) gave up the game’s first run in the bottom of the third inning as Liberty Hill scored from second base on a passed ball.

Brownwood pulled even in the top of the fourth as Trent Carlton reached on an error and came home to score on Emilio Salazar’s RBI.

But a fielding error by the Lions in the bottom of the sixth inning allowed Liberty Hill to push the decisive run across the plate.

The Lions finished with six hits — two by Scott Kinzler and one each by Salazar, Carlton, Seth Owen and Justin Osteen — to just three by Liberty Hill.

Kinzler worked all six innings and allowed two runs on three hits with nine strikeouts and one walk.

The Lions will host Lampasas at 7 p.m. Friday.
