The Howard Payne Lady Jackets slipped back toward the pack in the ASC West softball race after dropping a pair of games to Concordia, 8-1 and 9-5, Friday at Lady Jacket Field.
In Friday, opener, Concordia (14-6, 3-3) chalked up 11 hits off HPU (10-11, 5-3) pitcher Haleigh Caraway, who surrendered five earned runs with two strikeouts and one walk.
Erin Duhon recorded three hits and two RBIs for Concordia, Katie Carrizales chipped in two hits and a pair of RBIs and Noey Ruiz finished with one hit and two RBIs.
Concordia scored single runs in the first and fifth innings, two runs in the third and four in the seventh.
HPU tallied seven hits led by two from Amanda Gober and one apiece from Katie Poerner, Tylene Middleton, Evangelina Tellez, Jessica Morales and Pricilla Patino.
Concordia pitcher Kat Moreno fanned six and walked three.
In Friday’s second game, Concordia snapped a 2-all tie after one inning with four runs in the top of the second. HPU closed to within 6-5 thanks to a three-run bottom of the third, but Concordia tacked on one run in the four and two more in the sixth.
Lady Jacket pitchers Baillie Trumble and Keeley Lowrance combined to give up 17 hits with four strikeouts and four walks between them.
Duhon and Christina Martin both finished with three hits and two RBIs, while Carrizales added three hits and scored three runs.
For HPU, Tellez recorded three hits and an RBI, Morales tripled and drove in two, Poerner finished with two hits and Middleton added one hit and one RBI.
The final two games of the series begin at 11 a.m. at Lady Jacket Field.
