UVALDE — The Brownwood High tennis team made a 212-mile trek south and finished third overall at the Uvalde tennis tournament this past week.

Along with host Uvalde and Brownwood, schools represented in the tournament included Del Rio, San Antonio Lanier, Floresville, San Antonio South, Bandera and Medina Valley.

Brownwood won first in girls 'A' doubles and came in second and third in mixed doubles. BHS also added third-place performances in girls 'A' singles and boys 'B' doubles.

The championship girls doubles team was comprised of Stephanie Thompson and Karina Garcia, who collected four victories en route to the title.

In mixed doubles, Rosie Cadena and Bennie Salazar advanced to the finals before suffering their only defeat. Emily Harding and Joaquin Alonzo overcame a third-round defeat and went on to capture their final match. Also, Delaney Bennett bounced back from a third-round setback to earn third place in girls singles action.

The next match slated for the Lions and Lady Lions is Friday at Mason.
