BALLINGER — The Early Longhorns tallied the first five runs of the game and held off a late Ballinger charge for an 8-5 victory in District 6-2A baseball action Tuesday.

Early jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Brandon Brownlee’s RBI single plated Tres Underwood, who walked. J.W. Ledbetter followed with an RBI double, then Ricky Corona chipped in an RBI single.

The Longhorns increased their lead to 5-0 in the top of the second as Underwood and Kellan Jackson drew a pair of two-out walks. Nic Alcorta followed with an RBI double, while Brownlee reached on an error that allowed another run to score.

Early grabbed a 7-1 lead in the top of the fifth as Brownlee was hit by a pitch and later scored on an RBI triple by Ledbetter. Corona followed with an RBI ground out that scored Ledbetter.

The Longhorns tacked on their final run in the sixth inning to make the score 8-2 as Jake Fisher led off with a single and scored when Alcorta reached on an error.

Early is scheduled to visit Brady at 4 p.m. Thursday.
