GATESVILLE — Scott Kinzler tossed a three-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts, and the Brownwood Lions scored all their runs in the top of the sixth inning of Tuesday’s 3-0 District 8-3A victory at Gatesville.

With the win, the Lions improve to 2-1 in district action and 12-8 overall.

“I’m proud of the boys,” said Lions head coach Blake Sandford. “I’m more proud of them for who they are than what they do, but tonight I’m pretty proud of what they did.”

The Lions appeared poised to break a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning, but with one out and a runner on third base, a botched squeeze bunt nullified Brownwood’s chance to score.

In the sixth inning, Bryant McDaniel, Seth Owen and Colton Guidry collected consecutive one-out singles to load the bases.

Kinzler then drew a bases-loaded walk to push the first Lion run across the plate, while Trent Carlton followed with a two-out, two-RBI single.

The Lions will host Llano at 4 p.m. Friday in District 8-3A action.
