Brownwood police arrested a 19-year-old man Tuesday after investigating a complaint that a suspect shattered a car windshield with a baseball bat and tried to attack another person with the bat.

Dustin Atkins was booked into the Brown County Jai on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief, jail records state.

Officer Jesse Mares was initially dispatched to the 1700 block of Avenue B, and located the suspect in the 1800 block of Eighth, Mares' report states. Mares retrieved a wooden bat from the suspect.

In an unrelated incident, officer Walker Willey was dispatched to the 2800 block of Southside on a complaint involving child neglect. Details were not available Wednesday but Willey's report indicated a CPS case was open involving similar circumstances.

Willey arrested Rayna Leach, 23, on a charge of abandoning/endangering a child with intent to return, jail records state.

Officer Anna Sturgeon was dispatched Monday to the 2800 block of Fourth, where a woman said her boyfriend had followed her on a bicycle and threatened to slit her throat.

Sturgeon was dispatched Tuesday to the Law Enforcement Center, where a man said he'd lost his checkbook and someone had cashed two checks at a local convenience store.
