Special to the Bulletin

Any local or area resident who has a talent will have an opportunity to “show their stuff” at the second annual Mayfest Talent Show.

The show, which officially kicks off Mayfest activities, will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, May 3, at the high school auditorium. Competitors will be divided into four age categories; kids (3-7), pre-teen (8-12), teen (13-17) and adults (18 and over).

LeeAnn Grisham, show coordinator, said she is looking forward to this year’s show. “I am extremely excited to see what kind of talent Bangs and the surrounding area has to offer,” she said. “As someone who loves music and performing myself, I always enjoy talent in its many varieties.”

Performance types, as listed on the registration form are vocal, dance, instrumental and other, while the performance categories are solo, duet and group.

Performers will be allotted time for two song choices. However, if there are a large number of entries, time allotted for each performance could be adjusted, Grisham said. As with any competition, there are other rules that must be adhered to, Grisham said. Some of the rules include:

? Song titles must be given to Grisham no later than April 26 for review

? Songs must be family friendly – No strong lyrics will be allowed

? Any and all prerecorded music must be provided on CD only. No cassettes or other media will be accepted. It is preferred the CD contain only the selected piece of music to avoid any problems on stage. Each disc must be clearly labeled with the entrant’s name and cut number, if any.

? Grisham will be in contact with each performer to schedule a sound check prior to the show. If a time slot is agreed upon and missed, the performer may not be granted a sound check

? If special equipment is needed (tumbling mats, etc.), Grisham must be notified by April 26

? Signatures of ALL performers must be on the application form. The signature of the parent/guardian of anyone under the age of 18 must appear in the place of the performer.

? Participants agree to allow pictures to be used on the Mayfest Facebook page and/or other media coverage by signing the registration form.

If the act involves more than one person, the age of the oldest member will determine which age category the act will appear. Each participant will receive a certificate of appreciation for performing. Ribbons will be awarded to the top three places in each category. One notable difference from last year’s show will be the absence of judges. This year, judging will be based on audience applause at the end of each age category.

Grisham said she is hoping for a large turnout. “I hope to see the community come out and support those are participating in the talent show this year. I anticipate this will be one more avenue for the people in this area to be proud to live in small town Bangs, Texas.”

Registration forms must be returned no later than April 26 to any Bangs ISD campus or by mail to P.O. Box 188, Bangs, Texas, 76823.
