The Brownwood Lions chalked up five runs in the bottom of the third inning and Seth Owen fanned 11 batters in a 6-3 victory over the Llano Yellow Jackets Friday at Morris Southall Field.
The victory was the third in a row for the second-place Lions (13-8, 3-1) — all coming in district action after Brownwood dropped its 8-3A opener to Liberty Hill.
Trailing 2-1 heading to the bottom of the third, Brownwood’s Bryant McDaniel led off and reached on one of three Llano errors.
Owen followed with a double prior to three consecutive run producing hits. Cojo Guidry singled up the middle to score the tying run, Scott Kinzler bunted home the go-ahead run and Justin Osteen followed with an RBI base hit to right field.
Trent Carlton then walked ahead of back-to-back RBI ground outs from Elijah Salazar and Emilio Salazar, which capped the scoring.
Brownwood scored its first run in the bottom of the second as Carlton singled with one out and scored on an RBI infield single by Emilio Salazar with two outs in the inning.
Llano jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning thanks to three hits, including back-to-back RBI singles with one out in the inning.
Aside from the three-hit second inning, Owen allowed just two hits the rest of the contest. Osteen came on in relief to record the final out in the seventh as Llano scored once and loaded the bases after the first two outs were recorded, but left the tying runs stranded.
The Lions will be back in action at 7 p.m. Tuesday when they host Burnet.
