Berths in the Texas Teen-Age Baseball Association state tournament fields will be at stake beginning Monday as district tournament action kicks off for Brown County squads.

Brownwood and Early will each host a district tournament as the Massey Sports Complex will be the site of the Boys 10U District 4 tournament, while the Early City Park will host the Boys 14U District 2 Tournament. Both tournaments consist of six teams each.

The tournament in Brownwood features the most local flare as the field consists of the Brownwood Red Sox, Brownwood Giants, Brownwood Astros, Brownwood Reds, Early Diamondbacks and Early Gators. A coaches meeting will be held tonight to determine the bracket for the tournament.

The winner of the Boys 10U District 4 Tournament will advance to the 14-team state tournament July 22 in Temple.

Meanwhile, the schedule is set for the Boys 14U District 2 Tournament in Early, with all games taking place on Field 1.

Action begins Monday with the Comanche Indians against the San Saba Dillos at 5 p.m., followed by the Brownwood Athletics against the Brady Bulldogs at 8 p.m. The Brownwood Mustangs received a first-round bye and will square off with the Comanche-San Saba winner at 5 p.m. Tuesday, while the Early Hurricanes who also drew an opening round free pass will tangle with the Brownwood Athletics-Brady victor at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The tournament is scheduled to conclude at 6 p.m. Friday with the district championship game. The top two finishers in the tournament will advance to the 12-team state event in Hillsboro on July 22.

Two additional TTAB district tournaments are being conducted outside Brown County, but feature a handful of local teams vying for state tournament berths.

At the Boys 12U District 3 Open Base Tournament in Stephenville, the field includes the Brownwood Royals, Brownwood Mudcats, Early Gamecocks, Goldthwaite Eagles and Stephenville Coyotes, as well as a second team from Stephenville. The lone survivor at the conclusion of the tournament will earn a spot in the 12-team field for the state event in Ennis on July 22.

In Hamilton, the Boys 12U District 4 Tight Base Tournament will feature the Bangs Royals and Bangs Rangers, along with the Dublin Yankees, Hamilton Bulldogs, Comanche Rangers and De Leon Ducks. The top two teams from this tournament will move on to the nine-team state tournament in Harker Heights beginning July 22.

Also the week of July 22, Brown County will be the site of a pair of TTAB state tournaments.

At the Massey Sports Complex in Brownwood, the 8U Machine Pitch state tournament will be hosted by qualifying teams the Brownwood Cardinals and Brownwood Giants. Thirteen additional teams will converge on Brownwood for the week.

The Early City Park, meanwhile, will host the six-team 8U Player Pitch state tournament. The field is set as the Early Red Sox, Copperas Cove Rangers, Cameron Astros, Bosqueville Warriors, Eustace Mullins and Malakoff Orioles will be fighting for the state title.

Other state tournaments are already set for the week of July 22, including the 12-team 9U event which will be held in Eastland. Teams in the field include the Bangs Indians, Bangs Rangers, Eastland Longhorns, Ballinger Orioles, Ballinger Colts, Winters Bears, Winters Vipers, Hawley Cowboys, Hawley Chargers, Colorado City Cubs, Colorado City Rangers and Presidio Braves.

The 10-team 15U state tournament in Ennis will be comprised of teams from Brownwood, Ennis, Miles, Anson, Breckenridge, Roscoe, Stephenville, Comanche, Monahans and Grapeland.

Also, the TTAB High School Eligible state tournament is scheduled for July 19-21 in Hillsboro. The field has not been finalized, but in years past Brownwood and Bangs have sent teams to the event.
