Brown County Commissioners will consider approving $1.5 million in tax notes to help fund road and building improvements when they meet at 9 a.m. Monday at the courthouse.

Commissioners will conduct a public hearing before voting on approving the tax notes, which would be repaid over a five-year period.

Commissioners began discussing tax notes in early April and initially discussed figures of $8 million or $9 million, but backed off those amounts out of concern for the impact on taxpayers.

Brown County Judge Ray West and commissioners earlier described a possible scenario earlier in which the county would move from project to project, issuing tax notes for smaller amounts.

In other business Monday, West is scheduled to present a Distinguished Service Award to the Brown County Historical Commission. Commissioners will also consider approving a replacement employee for the auditor's office and an employee change for the sheriff's office.
