The Brownwood Astros led throughout most of a six-inning thriller Wednesday night at the Massey Sports Complex, defeating the Early Gators, 11-7, to advance to the championship game of the TTAB 10U District 4 Tournament championship.

The Astros will face the Early Diamondbacks at 6 tonight. If the Astros win, a second championship game will follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first. The tournament champion advances to the 14-team state tournament in Temple on July 22.

Gators starting pitcher Peyton Williams gave up five runs in the first two innings as the Astros built a 5-1 lead.

The Gators battled back, tying the score at seven apiece in the third inning.

The tie lasted until the Astros faced Gators relief pitcher Ryle Hill. With the Astros Josiah Noble hit by a pitch, he scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by David Long.

After taking the lead 8-7, the Astros padded their lead with another run when Logan Stone scored on a throwing error by the Gators.

The Astros added their last three runs for insurance in the final inning.

Blaize Espinoza of the Astros tallied five strikeouts in three innings and got the win as pitcher of record.

In Wednesday’s other tournament action, the Early Diamondbacks defeated the Early Gators to advance to the championship game, while the Brownwood Astros ousted the Brownwood Reds to advance to the face the Early Gators.
