With the first day of school just over a month away, the Salvation Army will be registering children for its annual school supplies drive from 2-6 p.m. July 15-17 and from 2-4 p.m. July 18-19 at the Salvation Army Service Center, located at 403 Lakeway Dr.

“Last year, we helped 1,003 children,” said Donna Harris, director for the Salvation Army. “We expect the numbers to increase to more than 1,200 this year.”

With the expected increase, Harris encourages families to register their children as soon as possible to help with planning purposes. Parents or guardians will need to bring their photo identification and one of the following for the children: school report card, Medicaid card, food stamp letter, shot record or birth certificate.

“By getting registered early, we can better prepare for purchasing supplies,” Harris said.

Along with signing up children for the drive, Harris encourages residents who are able to make monetary donations to help purchase supplies. Monetary donations can be dropped off at the Salvation Army or mailed to Salvation Army of Brownwood, P.O. Box 911, Brownwood, TX 76804.

“There are so many children that will face starting school this year without the required supplies,” Harris said. “Our hope is to give the basics to as many children as possible. We pray no child has to go without. Thank you all for your help and God bless you.”
